Fifty years of knowledge guides every step from clay to finished tile. Our process honors tradition while delivering the quality you deserve.
Step 1
Explore Our Tile Range
The process begins with a blend of kaolin and china clay, which is pressed on a fly-wheel press to create the Victorian tile. The tiles produced have the same sharp square edge that made the originals so distinctive.
Step 2
Drying & Biscuit Firing
Once released from the press, the tiles are placed onto wooden boards to dry naturally. They are then biscuit fired to 1060°C in cranks, creating a strong base for decoration.
Step 3
Engobe Application
When the tiles have cooled, they are dipped in an engobe—a blend of slip and glaze. This creates an eggshell surface that is perfect for hand-painting with a brush.
Step 4
Hand-Painting
Many tiles are extensively hand-painted with several layers of underglaze colours, hand-formulated to our own unique recipes. Each tile is distinctive, individual, and full of character, whether decorative or plain coloured.
Step 5
Final Firing
Finally, the decorated tiles are returned to the kiln and fired to complete the process. This final firing sets the glazes and colours, bringing the tiles to life with their characteristic depth and finish.
